Of all the day hikes I have completed in my home state of Indiana, not too many have impressed me like the Pate Hollow Trail. This trail is a 7.7 mile loop near Lake Monroe in Bloomington Indiana and is my new favorite. The elevation gain is minimal (less than 75 feet) and it is a good trail for the beginner hiker. There is no water source on the trail, except the lake, however there is a water source and restroom facilities at the trail head which is located behind the Paynetown Recreational Office.
One of the great things about this trail is that about halfway through it, you have access to the lake. When I hiked this, stopped and had a relaxing lunch right on the shore of the lake which made it even nicer. Additionally the trail is generally not too crowded and it is well marked and well maintained.
I have such a passion for all things outdoors and when you find a gem like this, you really want to tell others about it. I can provide something even better than just talking about it. Let me show you.
