Solo Hammock Camp Overnighter at the Red River Gorge

This past black Friday, I decided to get out of town and let the consumerism zombies have at each other. My destination was the Red River Gorge in Kentucky. It is one of my favorite places to camp, backpack, and hike. I set out to find Hanson’s Point which is an overlook off an unofficial trail.

Oh, by the way, at 13:35…those are Smilax berries. It’s part of a genus that includes Greenbriers, Bulbriers, and Catbriers. I believe we have 5 species in Kentucky. I’m not sure about their edibility. The blueberries are long gone, but then again they started early this year, on the ridge-tops at least. Wintergreen/Checkerberries are out and about, though ;).
